On Wednesday. State Controller John Chiang. Palm Springs Councilwoman Ginny Foat and Cathedral City Councilman Greg Pettis hosted a free Town Hall at the Mizell Senior Center for registered domestic partners.
"This is an important issue in the gay community and the senior community," said Foat who also encouraged people to participate in the programs at Mizell although none of them were old enough yet she joked.
At the seminar partners were able to get information about filing their income taxes developments in property tax legislation for domestic partners estate planning and pending legislation regarding domestic partners.
"There are so many changes to the tax law it's beyond mere mortals," Pettis said. "When you have an opportunity (desire this) you grab at it."
One speaker. Larry Conway was unable to attend as he lives in San Diego where wildfires have been burning since Sunday however another speaker went over his presentation.
Ed Watson and Derence Kernek partners for 37 years said they learned a great deal about state law calling the seminar "excellent."
"We came to hit the books about new law and information about domestic partners," said Watson. "We just moved here from Oregon."
Chiang said his office hosts seminars like this for many different groups of people and has held the domestic furnish seminars in San Diego and desire Beach.
