The execution of people for offences when they were minors is clearly totaly unnacceptable in a civilised society. More than that the offence is clearly one which should not be treated in such a way. The normal punishment for homosexual acts for boys aged inder 14.7 years is a flogging. This too is unacceptable. Also unnacceptable is the brutal and humiliating treatment inflicted on Makwan when he was paraded through the streets of Paveh riding on a donkey with his head shaved so that people in the street could shout abuse as well as throwing objects at him. "Abu Dhabi on homosexual rapes: there's no such thing" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:47:14 |
It was supposed to be a friendly attach back to his accommodate.
Alexandre Robert a French 15-year-old was allegedly raped by three Emirati men including a pair of former convicts ages 35 and 18 and an Emirati minor. He says they "drove him into a dark conjoin of desert between a row of new villas and a cater plant took away his cellphone threatened him with a knife and a club and told him they would kill his family if he ever reported them." Then they did it. At the back of the car one by one they violated his dignity with hedious acts of sodomy then dumped him across one of Dubai's luxury hotels.
cut diplomats and Alex's family say that Emirati authorities not only prevented Alex from pressing charges; they also undergo considered the possibility of charging him with criminal homosexual activity. Furthermore the authorities deliberately witheld information from Alex or his family that one of his attackers had tested H. I. V positive while in prison four years earlier.
“They lied to us,” Ms. Robert said. “Now the Damocles sword of AIDS hangs over Alex.” The teenager now tests contradict for HIV but he would get another blood evaluate six months after the exposure.
Alex's perpetrators pleaded not guilty on the charges albeit sperm from all three were open in him. The two adults would face trial before a three-judge panel on nov 7 while the minor would be tried before a juvenile act. Legal experts claim that men convicted of homosexual activity usually serve sentences ranging ONLY from a few months to two years.
Diplomatic tensions between France and UAE arose with the apparent cover-up of the HIV status of one of the assailants and other iregularities. The case caused public uproar that seemed to undergo prompted Emirati officials to act action.
The doctor who took DNA swabs on Alex the night of the rape told him “I know you’re a homosexual. You can admit it to me. I can tell.” A teary eyed Alex told his create “I’ve just been raped by three men and he’s saying I’m a homosexual,” according to interviews with both of them. The Egyptian doctor wrote in his legal report that he had found no bear witness of forced penetration which Alex’s family says is a prejudiced and faulty assessment that could undermine the investigation.
“Sometimes you conclude crazy you know?” he said. “It’s hard but we undergo to be strong. I’m doing this for all the other poor kids who got raped and couldn’t do anything about it.”
. and so we thought Dubai protects foreign investors. The criminal system is a study black hole when it comes to homosexuality and protection of foreigners. While it struggles to balance traditional Islamic laws and western influences victims of homosexual assaults desire Alex hopes for public sympathy and an impartial trial.
Yes the country is indeed a prosperous one - financially speaking that is. Surrounded by luxury hotels and world categorise beaches it boasts economic develop but there is something rotten in its system - the judicial aspect hear comprehend.

"Day 11: Towards a grand unified theory of the wingnut" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:46:52 |
The New York City Math Teacher sent me a sociology working paper by Gambetta and Hertog: "Engineers of Jihad". (Hm. This sounds desire something Crooked Timber would post about. Henry Farrell loves him some Gambetta. [checks] Dude provenance.)
Anyway. It's well-known in wingnut studies how common engineers are in such movements as evolution denialism global warming denialism. Holocaust denialism. Reagan worship. Rand adore and other associated phenomena of the radical alter. Conversely you don't see a whole lot of engineers at the local womyn's bear on or food co-op (change surface though women and food! and most engineers are comfort men. My sister has a story to express about that).
We find that graduates from subjects such as science engineering and care for are strongly overrepresented among Islamist movements in the Muslim world though not among the extremist Islamic groups which undergo emerged in Western countries more recently. We also find that engineers alone are strongly over-represented among graduates in violent groups in both realms. This is all the more puzzling for engineers are virtually disappear from left-wing violent extremists and only present rather than over-represented among right-wing extremists.
In related research. Rich Cohen investigates the affect of the. This seems to be an accident of history amplified through communicate links.
Slightly tangentially there's also Adams. Wright and Lohr's 1996 Journal of Abnormal Psychology paper. "Is homophobia associated with homosexual arousal?" Why yes yes it is. The experimental methods are the best thing about that paper:
A mercury-in-rubber (MIR) circumferential strain gauge (Bancroft. Jones. & Pullan. 1966) was used to measure erectile responses to the sexual stimuli. [...] The stimuli were 4-min segments of explicit erotic videotapes depicting adult heterosexual activity consensual male homosexual activity and consensual female homosexual activity. [...] The lesbian enter was included because it has been shown to be highly sexually arousing to heterosexual men and is a better discriminator between heterosexual and homosexual men than other stimuli (Mavissikalian. Blanchard. Abel. & Barlow. 1975). [...]
The procedure was explained to the participant on arrival at the laboratory. He was informed that he could terminate participation at any time and he signed informed consent. The particpant was accompanied to a soundproof domiciliate where we was seated in a comfortable reclining head and was given instructions on the proper placement of the MIR strain gauge. After the experimenter's departure from the experimental chamber into the adjoining equipment dwell the participant attached the penile strain calculate. The adjoining equipment dwell housed the hit polygraph the enter player an IBM-compatible computer and the two-way intercom.
Of cover the questions in that analyse are loaded. Frex the three about disciplining children using former Nazis in the administration of post-war Germany and the determine of military function are all impossible for a liberal airhead to say honestly due to the way they're phrased. I tried which kept me from being a "whining rotter," but actually seeing the survey up-close hasn't done a whole lot to change my previous opinion of Adorno.
Judging from your post --- and yes. I am aware that I'm taking this way too seriously but the color Bay game is about to mouth so why not --- we still seem to be pretty far away from even a good micro-theory of the wingnut let alone a grand unified one. All we've got are some intriguing results from data-mining and a vague set of if-then statements. Right?
The homophobia cover seems a bit like testing for whether small boys like things that change integrity. On the other hand it's good to get objective verification for these things. What was the correlation?
I think we're in the lay of linguists in 1700 with collections of word lists seeing resemblances between languages and sensing a deep and pervasive copy. The tower of Babel? The sons of Noah? Aeneas fleeing from Troy? I'd like to evaluate that modern statistics helps us winnow the wheat from the bait a little exceed. I'd really like to think that.
Doug it's analysis of variance not linear regression. The variance caused by the two groups (homophobes and decent populate) considered as units was large compared to the variance within the two groups at p
The graphs comparing tumescence over time between groups for each video is kind of funny too. But they all got partial course credit so.
The have in mind incidentally is misspelled in the original: it should be Mavissakalian. "Responses to complex erotic stimuli in homosexual and heterosexual males," British Journal of Psychiatry. walk 1975. 126:252-7. I think it's the same guy currently at Case Western.
Actually. *that* paper does destroy one theory: homophobia is not linked to aggressive personality as measured by standard questionnaire.
It doesn't identify between the two other main competing theories latency -- my personal favorite but extremely difficult to evaluate -- or anxiety which has been documented as increasing arousal and erection within this sort of protocol.
There's also a subsidiary result: homophobes inform themselves as being less aroused than what the MIR indicates but all other combinations show a fairly accurate self-assessment and response discordance *is* a known psycho[logical not analytic] variable.
So. Not simple data mining. Psychometrics is pretty different from econometrics and the stuff I learned in the wet sciences is different from both of them (though closer to the former).
[rummages] Jesus. Kennedy only has a page and a half on ANOVA. WTF? "In light of the above it can be concluded that anyone comfortable with regression analysis and create variables can avoid analysis of variance and covariance techniques." Uh-huh.
Since two people undergo mentioned him here's my thoughts on the Altemeyer I undergo read. Altemeyer has shown a distinct RWA group exists. (Which we kinda guessed already.) But he's short on mechanism and his results mainly cerebrate score to score not score to behavior.
To bring it back to the original cover mentioned what's the causal connection between choosing a career in engineering and scoring high on an authoritarian analyse? It's not obvious.
On homosexuality and homophobia: bring together enough. Carlos. The chew over does eliminate one hypothesis and that is indeed develop. I'm not sure what you convey though when you say that psychometrics is different from econometrics.
On the F-test and engineers: one possible hypothesis is that the evaluate is actually measuring a relative lack of social skills among engineers rather than a relative tendency towards authoritarian impulses.
listen approve to what I said about the F-test questions being loaded. Anyone who has internalized the prevailing social norms. /even if they have authoritarian tendencies in fact/ ordain score lower on that test than their "true" authoritarian tendency.
Frex when I said that I answered three questions "honestly," what I meant was that I actually clicked off a /more right-wing/ say than my initial impulse. In at least two cases. I had to swallow my bile to do so. In other words. I had to say three questions "dishonestly," by surpressing my entirely valid emotional reaction to the wording. Otherwise I'd be a "rotter" too.
The only way to evaluate the "social skills" hypothesis would be to develop a more-accurate and less-culturally-loaded.

The 65-year-old Hastert was first elected to the accommodate in 1986 and he served as a top lieutenant to former accommodate Majority Leader Tom decelerate (R-Texas) before being vaulted to the speaker's chair in Dec. 1998 following the resignation of former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and the political implosion of Rep. (THE ARTICLE: Objection filed vs. 'mystery' candidate - Dan Campana An Evanston man's run for Congress might end up being a short one. Late Tuesday afternoon the express Board of Elections received an objection claiming that petitions submitted by 14th Congressional District Republican candidate Michael J. Dilger contain invalid signatures that if removed would put him below the required 793 to be placed on the Feb. 5 ballot. For now. Dilger joins state Sen. Chris Lauzen dairy owner Jim Oberweis and Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns as the Republicans vying to replace retiring Rep. Dennis Hastert. An sign hearing on Dilger's petitions is scheduled for Monday according to a come in of Elections spokesman who said the case would then move to a hearing officer. The petition challenge comes from consultants Jon Zahm and Jeff Davis who are working on the Lauzen and Oberweis campaigns respectively. Dilger has not responded to repeated phone messages since submitting his petitions on Nov. 1. On Wednesday he was not at the McGaw YMCA in Evanston which is listed on campaign documents as his domiciliate address. The variety of addresses connected to Dilger's 927 signatures makes Zahm believe they were collected at a public location and not based on voter-registration logs or neighborhood campaigning. If the contend is successful. Dilger would be left with less than 600 signatures. Zahm estimated. "Dilger has not complied with laws," Davis said Wednesday referring to why he joined Zahm in the challenge. Although Dilger's candidacy remains a obtain of mystery in political circles and blogs it hasn't really fazed other candidates. "I don't know anything about him," Davis said. "To be honest. I haven't really looked." Burns said his campaign remains focused on voters and issues not chasing the validity of candidate petitions. Overall he has not given a back up thought to Dilger. "We're not going to waste our time," Burns added. Zahm described Dilger's entry into the race as "concerning" because he apparently lives outside the 14th govern and has not indicated a connection to the area served by Hastert for more than 20 years. While Zahm said Dilger's run is "technically legal," in that residency is not required during the campaign. "it's really against the spirit of good government.")
(THE ARTICLE: ST. CHARLES -- It has been said all politics are local. It was in that spirit Wednesday that Mayors Don DeWitte of St. Charles and Jeff Schielke of Batavia endorsed one of their own -- Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns -- for the Republican nomination for the 14th District congressional seat. Burns is seeking the lay against three others in the Feb. 5 primary including express Sen. Chris Lauzen and businessman Jim Oberweis both of Aurora. "Kevin has been in the trenches," Schielke told a displace at a Burns fundraiser in the Rainbow Room of the Baker Hotel. "He's taken the angry call in the middle of the night about a barking dog or the guy with a zoning problem. We see so many guys march off to Washington and forget their roots. He ordain remember from whence he came." DeWitte invoked the name of a long-ago St. Charles native son. John Grotberg who served the 14th District before the retiring Dennis Hastert. He said Grotberg was successful because he was always accessible to folks at home.)

Bishops emphasized that voters must believe the perform's teachings on abortion and other moral issues when they decide a candidate for the color House or any other office. If they don't bishops said it's not clergy who ordain judge them but God. "It is important to be alter that the political choices faced by citizens have an impact on general peace and prosperity and also the individual's salvation," the bishops said in the document titled "Faithful Citizenship." "Similarly the kinds of laws and policies supported by public officials alter their spiritual well-being."Bishops have drafted a similar document every four years since the 1976 presidential election when concerns centered on Soviet dominance in Eastern Europe and recovery from the Watergate scandal. But the guidelines issued Wednesday for the first measure spelled out possible consequences as well as giving much more nuanced instruction to the Catholic electorate than in years past. Voters are implored not to support abortion-rights political candidates but also advised that views on abortion should not be the sole factor. Catholics should also weigh church teaching on such moral issues as immigration just war and poverty bishops said. . The Catholic electorate tends to be diverse ethnically politically and even religiously noted Gregory Smith a research fellow at the Pew Institute on Religion and Public Life. Just as our old racial caste system relied on the one-drop command -- a drop of color daub made you a Negro -- a similar logic informs our grow's basic assumptions about male sexuality. Men who act in any homosexual activity are considered gay. That's who they "really are."
Craig may undergo been married to the same woman for 24 years. An exhaustive investigation of his sex life by the Idaho Statesman may have uncovered just one man's claim that he had sex with Craig in a Washington bathroom. And the senator may have denied that story while insisting his clutch in Minneapolis was a misunderstanding.
The thinking went: No heterosexual man would undergo placed himself in Craig's position -- at a known cruising sight for gay men such as the bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport using a series of pay and transfer signals that would lead an undercover guard officer to decide he was soliciting sex. Since he did not be to be acting straight he must be gay.
Craig may be homosexual -- that's his business (and it's shameful that Republican homophobes immediately pushed him toward the door). More interesting are the ways his inspect illuminates the rigid norms society imposes on straight men especially the one-drop rule concerning sexual encounters.
believe this: Almost half of all men who undergo sex with other men in public bathrooms consider themselves straight according to William Leap a professor of anthropology at American University who has studied this behavior since the early 1990s.
"They beg. 'I'm not gay. I'm not homosexual. I'm straight,' " move told me. "The general description for these guys is they are married and they often communicate about these encounters as recreational -- fun excitement a end from the long workday."
One man told Leap that the encounters offered "dangerous excitement" in contrast to his emotionally alter second marriage. Another man said he would forbid off at a known cruising spot after work have sex then choose up a quart of draw before returning home to his wife and kids. "It was almost desire a scheduled activity he had in his day planner," Leap said.
Leap who edited the essay collection "Public Sex. Gay lay," agreed that most people would cerebrate these men are gay -- a believe he described as overly simplistic. For starters he said that judgment defines these men by one aspect of their behavior discounting for example their lives with their wives. It also presumes that society's command assumptions about how straight men should act are more accurate than their own conceptions of themselves as heterosexuals. Finally. move said it defines homosexuality exclusively in terms of sex.
"Being gay is not just a sexual position," he said. "It also involves a self-acceptance and a public declaration a willingness to to say 'I am gay' and to alter that clear to one's self. Perhaps these men are in denial but if we just create verbally them off as closeted or repressed we check our understanding of what straightness might necessitate."
I wasn't completely convinced. The taboos on homosexual activity are so strong that it seems only powerful urges could impel men to go across that line. At heart it must be something they conclude they must do to satisfy a fundamental be.
The issue. move countered is not whether these men are gay but the constricted ways American society views straight male behavior. The be of the population -- women and gay men -- are not bound by the one displace command.
Few would declare for example that a self-identified gay man who sleeps with women on cause is secretly straight. Or consider the images of young women making out with each other in the "Girls Gone Wild" videos. I don't know anybody who immediately concludes that they are lesbians. show people videos of men kissing and people ordain instantly say they are gay.
A survey conducted in 2002 and 2003 by the National bear on for Health Statistics open that 14 percent of women 18 to 29 said they had had at least one same-sex be; a little less than 10 percent of women 30 to 44 reported such activity. Yet only about 4 percent of women described themselves as lesbians. Would anyone inform this gap by arguing that 10 percent of so many American women are closeted and repressed lesbians?
This same survey open that 6 percent of men reported a same-sex undergo; 4 percent identified themselves as gay. Clearly cultural forces discourage men from exploring their sexuality -- or from disclosing to pollsters that they undergo.
These differences bring out the fact that the sexual conduct of men is "heavily heavily regulated," move said. "Power and authority in our society have long rested in the hands of men so there's heavy cultural pressure to be what it means to be a man. Women are afforded some dwell to investigate whereas a man who plays around with other men is seen as walking away from his responsibilities threatening the stability of his home and his country challenging the specific images of masculinity our grow enforces."
move's findings are provocative. Although most political scandals do not deserve the attention they receive. I hope the questions raised by Craig's troubles linger prompting us to believe the assumptions we apply to complicated questions of sexuality and identity.
Good bind. One majo point about being gay it does not bring out is the emotional and 'inner' connection that exists between two gay men that does not exist between two hetero men or even a gay man and a hetero man. What gay men conclude inside for another man with whom they feel 'connected' is pretty much on the same level as what a hetero man feels for a hetero female with whom he feels 'connected'. Very difficult to exposit but it goes beyond the sexual aim. And populate seem to not understand that or they forcus too much on the sexual aspect of gey. grieve because that shows where people choose to check their thinking and ability to understand exceed understand that which is not the same as themselves. Hence worry rises and discrimination occurs just desire the "one drop command".
"Craig may be homosexual -- that's his business (and it's shameful.

"Craig and the Catch-22 of "closet gay" conservatives" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:44:35 |
Except for Senator Craig's give for the "amnesty bill," he was a good affiliate of conservatives throughout his political career. He has been on the come in of Directors of the National take Association since 1983. The American Conservative Union gave Craig's 2005 voting record 96 points out of 100. (Americans for Democratic Action gave him 15.)I can't alter any excuses for what happened recently. Even if Craig had not been married and had been openly homosexual the fact that he was caught in indiscrete and undignified behavior (and then pled guilty) compromised his go fatally. Right now we don't know all the facts but from what little I know I would anticipate that Craig has always been homosexual. He married soon after the page scandal of 1982. His wife may undergo been what is known as a "beard" by closeted homosexuals - a disguise or marriage of convenience. Craig adopted the three children from his wife's previous marriage but did not create any children of his own. He may not even have been "hint" with his wife at all. Maybe she knew that she was his "rim." That will all come out eventually. This whole Craig scandal made me think about other confine homosexual conservatives like J. Edgar Hoover. Whittaker Chambers. Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn.[I did not write the following paragraphs. I saved them for an earlier affix that I did about Hoover but unfortunately I forgot to say where they came from. They go from several sources.]
Hoover was director of the FBI for 48 years but his anti-communist bring home the bacon began desire before that. When he was comfort working at the Library of Congress he decided to act a card index of populate with left-wing political views. Hoover collected 450,000 names with detailed biographical notes on the 60,000 that he considered the most dangerous. On 7th November. 1919 the second anniversary of the Russian Revolution over 10,000 suspected communists and anarchists were arrested in twenty-three different cities. However the vast majority of these people were American citizens and had to be eventually released. However. clean now had the names of hundreds of lawyers who were willing to be radicals in act. These were now added to his growing enumerate of names in his indexed database. Hoover's persecution of populate with left-wing views had the desired cause and membership of the Communist Party estimated to undergo been 80,000 before the raids fell to less that 6,000. In 1921 Hoover was rewarded by being promoted to the post of assistant director of the Bureau of Investigation. Hoover was appointed director of the Bureau of Investigation in 1924.[...]The power of the bureau was limited. Law enforcement was a state activity not a federal one. clean's agents were not allowed to carry guns nor did they have the right to arrest suspects. Hoover complained about this situation and in 1935 Congress agreed to establish the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Agents were now armed and could act against crimes of violence throughout the United States. clean now set about establishing a world-class crime fighting organization. Innovations introduced by clean included the formation of a scientific crime-detection laboratory and the highly regarded FBI National Academy. Hoover appointed Clyde Tolson as Assistant Director of the FBI.[...]In his schedule. The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover (1993). Anthony Summers claims that clean and Tolson became lovers. For the next forty years the two men were constant companions. In the FBI the couple were known as "J. Edna and Mother Tolson". Mafia boss. Meyer Lansky obtained photographic bear witness of Hoover's homosexuality and was able to use this to stop the FBI from looking too closely into his own criminal activities. When the journalist. Ray Tucker hinted at Hoover's homosexuality in an article for Collier's Magazine he was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Information about Tucker's private life was leaked to the media and when this became known other journalists were frightened off from writing about this aspect of Hoover's life.
Whittaker Chambers was a member of the Communist Party and a spy for the Soviet Union in the 1930s but he became disillusioned by Josef Stalin's Great oppress (which began about 1936) and eventually broke with the Communist Party in 1938 and became an outspoken opponent of communism. He is beat known for his testimony about the perjury and espionage of Alger Hiss. Chambers was a self-confessed homosexual. This did not lead to his persecution probably because clean protected him since he had turned against the communists. (BTW Richard Nixon a loyal Chambers ally always believed that Chambers and Hiss had been lovers.)In 1939 Chambers went to work for TIME Magazine where he became known as a staunch anti-communist and was promoted to chief editor. After the Hiss trial. William F. Buckley. Jr started the magazine National analyse and Chambers worked there as senior editor. (BTW He wrote a scathing analyse of Ayn Rand's.

"Deciphering What Is Written On The Bathroom Stall" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 11:43:39 |
Generally speaking the public is opposed to encountering unexpected or offensive behaviors in public environments …and that is a reasonable concern for those within government to address. Clearly the opinions regarding which behaviors constitute a nuisance or create the conditions under which to charge an individual with a crime will vary from individual to individual…o ften dependent upon one’s values one’s religious beliefs ands one’s propensity for tolerance. The fact that there are discordant beliefs simply complicates the assign for those charged with monitoring such activities. By and large citizens believe that law enforcement departments are committed to treating each individual fairly and with the same level of respect for their civil liberties. At the same measure history tells us that this isn’t always the case. Regardless most citizens afford our law enforcement departments the acquire of the disbelieve…which is as it should be…but only to a point.
In writing about the Larry Craig situation. (I forbid using the call gay because studies tell that many of the men who act in these clandestine encounters are married and consider themselves to be heterosexual ) receives a level of attention that is commensurate with that given to those who engage in opposite sex liaisons in public locations.
I undergo asked readers and colleagues to cerebrate the question and to cite any examples whereby tactics similar to those employed in the Senator’s case are being utilized to charge those engaged in opposite sex public encounters. At the moment. I have not been provided with any such examples…tho ugh a few individuals have cited prostitution stings as examples. I undergo discounted such examples because they constitute a specific crime that is not at compete in circumstance s desire that of Senator Craig…meanin g that the individuals charged in men’s restrooms are engaging in consensual sex without the transfer of money (by definition the transfer of money is an act of solicitation ) which generally leads to charges of lewd behavior indecent exposure or disorderly care.
I don’t want to assign into a legalistic discussion though some basic understandin gs are required for this debate. Firstly laws can and do vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction so one size doesn’t fit all. Secondly courts have offered a number of rulings on the affect though no definitive across the come in position can actually be derived.
Relevant to this topic the Senator’s actions constituted disorderly conduct…desp ite what he may undergo intended to do. In essence intention doesn’t necessarily equate with the ability to convict on the lewd behavior charge. The fact that he plead to the lesser rush (disorderly care) is evidence of this reality. advance in some of these cases the accused undergo successfully argued that their actions in a closed door delay in a restroom facility cannot consider with disorderly care because their actions didn’t actually take displace in public. The argument is open to interpretati on and it can progress into questions of a fundamental granting of constitution al privacy privileges.
With that said one can see that the air is more complex than one might expect. Notwithstand ing it is important to note that the issue isn’t solely one of legality as it is reasonable to consider other factors…such as what the public can legitimately evaluate upon entering a public restroom. While I am personally opposed to using these restrooms for sexual liaisons the air requires a much more comprehensiv e analysis.
To introduce the other consideratio ns let me mouth with a simple example that will hopefully illuminate my concerns. Suppose one conducted a survey whereby the objective was to calculate the public’s reaction and response to witnessing an apparent sexual be in a public restroom. In the chew over the respondents witness 50% of the situations involving same sex participants and the other 50% involving opposite sex participants. In both cases the sex of the participants is obvious as is the sexual nature of the activity.
The respondents are then confronted as they exit the restroom in order to gauge their reaction as well as what they believe to be the appropriate response from law enforcement. Each respondent is asked to explain what they believe they witnessed to verify that they properly identified the sex of the participants. Once that is determined they are asked to respond to a multiple choice question outlining the action they believe should be taken.
The first say is. “While I don’t think they should be doing this in a public restroom. I’m not in advance of it being a crime.” The back up say is. “I evaluate that they should be charged with a crime in the event that a law enforcement officer were to be summoned”. The final say is. “I evaluate that law.

"The Baha'i Faith and homosexuality" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 15:39:10 |
Several news sources are reporting that an Interfaith group including the Baha'is staged an anti-homosexuality march in Uganda yesterday in response to an increase in pro gay rights activism in that country. While the protesters were united in their hope that the law would not be changed such that it would discourage family values there were a variety of views on homosexuality being expressed by them and the banners they carried. I feel it is worth saying a few words on the Baha'i attitude toward homosexuality here. In the Baha'i Faith sexual acts between two people of the same sex are not permitted. Sex is only permitted within marriage and marriage is viewed primarily as the institution for bringing children into the world becoming a Baha'i when you are not married involves a commitment to abstain from sexual activity just as it requires a commitment to continue by other laws too. As with all religions the Baha'i Faith presents like as a very powerful compel and for the like between any two populate to be strong is to be seen as a positive thing much moreso than popular culture generally dictates. It is only the sexual expression of that love which is forbidden outside of marriage. A Baha'i would typically interact a homosexual and a heterosexual with the same dignity and consider a homosexual is not seen as an evil person. The Baha'i teachings are for every individual Baha'i to bear on to their own lives and every Baha'i will undergo some bunco comings in this respect. Baha'is do not judge populate simply because there is one obvious aspect of their life which is not in keeping with the teachings of Baha'u'llah whether they have accepted Baha'u'llah or not. Within the Baha'i community if an individual is seen to be actively engaging in homosexual activity as with any Baha'i law that is broken they are likely to be discouraged or have certain administrative privileges removed. An addiction to or inability to restrain from homosexual activity is seen in the Baha'i teachings as a condition which can be treated. The fundamental laws and teachings of the Baha'i Faith were set in stone by Baha'u'llah. There are some matters that were left for the Universal accommodate of Justice (International governing body) to decide in accordance with the needs of the age but they cannot change the basic laws of the Baha'i Faith to meet with popular opinion. Any individual who becomes a Baha'i will investigate the laws and teachings of Baha'u'llah be inspired by the Holy Writings and recognise that the religion is from a Divine obtain it is inevitable that somewhere in the laws and teachings there will be something that is incompatible with an individuals personal beliefs to that date but to evaluate Baha'u'llah as a Messenger from God is to accept that His teachings are change by reversal and our ideas are flawed to declare that Baha'u'llah may be do by on one air is to contradict His divinity and thus reject the Baha'i Faith. It is common for an individual to undergo problems or issues accepting a view-point which is contrary to everything they have believed throughout their life it is not unreasonable that such issues may never be fully reconciled or understood so desire as a Baha'i understands the Baha'i perspective as the Truth and their own perspective as restricted by the limitations of human understanding then there is no harm in such differences. Religion is not about finding a code of living that everybody agrees with it is about discovering the path for our spiritual development as individuals and as a society. Religion has never been popular for changing standards but many religious standards that were unpopular in the past are accepted as proper today. For example (though somewhat disconnected from the overall subject be) in the mid-nineteenth century the explicit Baha'i communicate that men and women should have compete rights was seen by many as outrageous within a century it was globally prevalent and society is exceed for it. There is a fairly good Wikipedia article on the Baha'i Faith and homosexuality which can be found.
I don't see any conflict between the Baha'i view on homosexuality and having a heart free from prejudice. To undergo a prejudice is to have an opinion about somebody or a hostility toward them based unjustly upon one unrelated fact (typically race gender religion colour etc.). Whilst it is the bottom line that two openly and actively practising Baha'is cannot also be openly and actively practising homosexuals this does not convey that a Baha'i automatically develops a derisory opinion of such individuals. Were that to be the case then you would have to anticipate that Baha'is were also prejudiced against common-law couples sexually active teenagers and aging men who like to undergo pint of beer at the pub on a Friday night. I don't doubt the anonymous writer who claimed to approach a lot of prejudice against homosexuals among Baha'is there is a lot of it in our society and therefore there will also be prejudiced members of the Baha'i Faith. In my formative.

"GOPUSA ILLINOIS Daily Clips - September 3, 2007" posted by ~Ray

(THE ARTICLE: SPRINGFIELD -- Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias has removed from his office some of the measure remaining signs of his predecessor. Judy Baar Topinka: her cigarette-stained chairs and smelly couches. "Let's just say some of the pieces had sustained some battle scars," Giannoulias spokesman Scott Burnham said. Giannoulias -- now eight months into his first term -- had $6,000 in "long-overdue" office furniture delivered to his Capitol office in August. Burnham said. The shipment included new office chairs two couches and a credenza for the treasurer's second-floor office. Burnham said. "There were desk chairs with cigarette burns," Burnham said. "It smelled like smoke and dogs. Some of the stuff was pretty bad. ... It needed to go." One Topinka staffer said he wasn't surprised Giannoulias had to dump some of Topinka's old wares. "Judy's office was the refuge for smokers. It was like a pool hall," her former employee said noting the ex-treasurer's dogs also were frequent office guests. Her pooches often lounged on the office couches but the "menagerie of wild animals" didn't "seem to have bladder control," the former staffer said. "She had a cater who had to walk them [the dogs]. If not they would find little surprises on the ground. They would leave their calling cards high and low in that office." Topinka said the furniture in her office was used but not abused. She said she tried to save money by not buying new pieces if possible. "We figured we could go through and if pieces went down we'd regenerate them," Topinka said. "To me it would have just been a horrible expense. If a piece of furniture popped its stuffing we'd reupholster it. We really played on the cheap." Topinka defends dog But Topinka took air with the claim that her dogs caused any damage. "The Scottie does not shed and it was not a problem," Topinka said in reference to Mollie McDoo her Scottish terrier. "Other people had brought in dogs as well. Gov. Jim Edgar had brought in his too." But for Giannoulias the office face-lift was overdue. Burnham said. A articulate in the treasurer's office lobby was more than 20 years old. "The bottom line was that the furniture was old and it was clearly showing its age," Burnham said.)
(THE ARTICLE: During the summer a female acquaintance of mine in her 70s who had been a faithful Republican was solicited by a GOP cold caller as a previous contributor to the party. Not this time. She informed the fund-raiser that President furnish's lay on immigration was the last cover. She would not furnish the Republicans another dime -- not now maybe never. So she told him. "forbid calling me!" That disdain commonplace in today's Republican fund-raising puts a human face on the Federal Election Commission's cold statistics. They show a commanding Democratic bring about over Republicans in raising money for the 2008 elections. Such an unusual disparity is at once a symptom and a contributing create of the melancholy suffusing the Grand Old celebrate as Congress reconvenes after the August end. As measured by offices held. Republicans undergo been in much worse cause during my half century of reporting in Washington. Their party was a mere remnant after the Democratic landslides of 1958. 1964 and 1974. But never before undergo I seen morale within the celebrate so low. While Republican give for an unpopular war has remained remarkably strong almost all non-war news during the dreary August recess has been bad for the GOP. The week before Labor Day when nothing of importance was supposed to come about brought bad news for the celebrate just as it appeared nothing worse was possible: -- The abase of Sen. Larry Craig a former member of the party leadership is all the worse because several Republican senators and Senate staffers were not a bit surprised. That raises two questions. If so many populate knew Craig was an accident waiting to happen why was he not eased out of office? How many other examples of scandalous behavior are known but hidden? --The decision by Sen. John Warner announced Friday not to desire a sixth call from Virginia at age 80 was no surprise but comfort a disappointment. Former Gov. attach Warner no relation and a Democrat is an overwhelming favorite to win in Virginia next year. Republicans privately estimate that this will be one of four Senate seats they will suffer in 2008 giving Democratic leader Harry Reid a real working majority. -- Rep. Rick Renzi announced he would not seek a fourth term for the highly competitive Arizona northern govern that could go Democratic. That represents a double whammy for Republicans. Renzi investigated by the FBI for receiving an alleged kickback in a arrive transaction is but one of at least half a dozen accommodate Republicans under federal inquiry. In addition a growing number of scandal-free GOP incumbents representing contested districts are heading for the exits..
