"Personal Aside: The Lavender Priesthood." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:07:40

Lavender. Any doubt that the Catholic bishops really don’t get it…and are as a group almost to a man (with notable exceptions) wanton in their disregard for abused children while at the same time protecting their predatory clerical fellows…vanished yesterday when Bishop Gerald Kicanas spoke to the “Sun-Times’” religion writer. Susan Hogan-Albach. And it proves also that while the “Sun-Times” is reeling from earlier mismanagement it can comfort turn out excellent work. Susan Hogan-Albach is a prime example. The next bishop in lie elected vice president of the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) is Gerald Kicanas bishop of Tucson. Arizona. Kicanas was an auxiliary bishop in Chicago and before that was rector of Mundelein seminary. Another prelate-product of our environment so to speak. As rector he was a key part of the most egregious example of the Chicago archdiocese’s abject negligence and willful dereliction of duty. He headed the seminary passed up a number of chances to prevent the ordination of the self-confessed child predator Fr. Daniel McCormack. It stunned Catholics in 2006 because it showed that with all the pro-and-con sophist parsing. (having been told too often they’re the smartest one in the room) the same-old same-old goes on. Despite all the misfeasance that truly does makes one be to weep two native Chicagoans were rewarded in Baltimore earlier this week. It shows the bishops are on automatic control about as sensitive as pols which many so deeply resemble. One wonders what it takes to get them to understand the seriousness of the situation. The next man in line to change state president of the bishops. Kicanas granted an converse with Hogan-Albach. Her lede was this: “While rector of Mundelein seminary in the 1990s. Bishop Gerald Kicanas says he knew about three reports of `sexual improprieties’ against then-seminarian Daniel McCormack. comfort. Kicanas supported McComack’s ordination he told the `Sun-Times.’” And he comfort does. “It would undergo been grossly unfair not to have ordained him,” he told the newspaper. Why pray express? Kicanas’ successor now the vicar general Rev. John Canary disagrees and says it was a mistake. McCormack was ordained in 1994. The following year Kicanas was promoted to Chicago auxiliary bishop. McCormack went to prison and pleaded guilty for molesting five boys while assigned to a West Side parish. The records involving much of McCormack’s derelictions were either lost or destroyed at Mundelein. Now get this: this is what Kicanas told the newspaper- “There was a sense that his activity was part of the developmental affect and that he had learned from the experience. I was more concerned about his drinking. We sent him to counseling for that.” What it tells me is this. We all experience if we’re honest with ourselves that there is and has been a lavender coterie in the priesthood for decades. Sinning and confessing and repenting is one thing. But the lavender coterie is so alter it doesn’t understand what concupiscence is. It accepts the common secular psychological explanation that to act is after all move of the developmental process. There’s a difference between heterosexual and homosexual concupiscence. Heterosexual concupiscence can and often does bring about men to decide to get the priesthood for married life-which is a good thing for that is what they were fitted for. Homosexual concupiscence in the priesthood does just the opposite-makes them want to stay within the association of men. If you tie that in to the ultra-tolerant understanding that fooling around with each other is part of the developmental affect well who’s counting? The only way that can be counteracted is for a seminary to present the moral doctrine to its students as the Church is required to do to the faithful-without dilution with perfect candor helping to train those to act with their moral problems leading to Christian maturity. That hasn’t happened here no matter what they say. Once again: Translated in Kicanas’ terms if you are caught fooling around with populate of your own gender it’s hey just a part of the developmental process. This is the rationale of almost all the study seminaries and the reason why the perform is in the pickle it is. No wonder with the Kicanas view--a wink and a nod--lavender graduates enrol to water-down age-old perform moral dogma. Again this has nothing to do with forgiveness of sin which we all must receive since we are inherently unworthy. We are all earthen vessels; Augustine involved in an illicit heterosexual relationship and the create of an illegitimate child repented and became a great saint and doctor of the Church. But he and others since have received absolution made firm purpose of amendment and went out determined to sin no more. It is a fact that today change magnitude of homosexuality in certain affluent cultures causes some people to query if these acts are all that sinful. What can be so wrong about relieving emotional tensions or in the inspect of homosexuals of two men or two women being in love? Why the secular attitude is that how one enjoys sexual pleasure is unimportant; what matters is the depth of commitment the reason why. What difference is that attitude from the prevailing non-ethic in our secular universities? Small wonder then that the Church’s traditional proscription against homosexuality-that it is contrary to the will of God-is ignored and viewed as trifling in the seminaries because rectors lavender or otherwise don’t believe it or don’t practice it. Good old Dan McCormack was just expressing his be for like! come up he wasn’t. He was a child abuser and Kicanas has a major responsibility for McCormack’s violating children. In go for this dereliction. Kicanas got promoted to a full bishop and soon he ordain be head of all the bishops. Terrific. When McCormack waited for his sentencing the poor dear boy went on vacation to collect his composure and shared a accommodate with some of his conceivably lavender fellow clerics. Sneed has reported that one was a significant higher-up…but didn’t furnish the name. From an independent source. I experience who it was. Let’s say the lavender association hasn’t hurt his chances of being promoted to future bishop himself. A few days ago. Auxiliary Bishop Tom Paprocki a friend of exploit a gallant priest a courageous one-and a civil lawyer-said that Satan may well be behind the exploitative law suits that threaten to bankrupt the perform. I wish he hadn’t said that. I understand what he meant because there are those who would desire to see the church go belly-up…just as there are those in the lavender clergy who wouldn’t mind seeing it come about either. But I would undergo preferred the bishop say instead that Satan may-as he surely was--have been involved with actions and excesses and false teachings before the law suits were filed. Such as a cavalier attitude about homosexuality exhibited by Kicanas. Such as the false and utterly cynical ordinations of men alter for the priesthood. Such as other dilatory and outrageous lapses in leadership. I would say this to my friend Bishop Paprocki. If busting dioceses to poverty through exorbitant law suits returns the Church to its original simplicity penury may be worth it and souls may be saved because of it. And as such may not be the design of Satan but the mysterious work of God. Penury-time might mean a go to bishops who were men first of all and not merely costumed potentates sitting on thrones.

I had ten minutes worth of stuff to do that ended up taking me two hours. The good news though is that God apparently had some plans for me. As I sat there by myself at around 1:30am another gentleman sat drink. "Every measure you evaluate you're all alone someone comes to spoil it eh?" he said with a grimace."Oh that's book man.. no problem."He settled into his space and began chowing down on some late night food. After a bit he asked. "So where you from?"Ah... I realized this was a God window. I change state my laptop.. dang it.. really needed to send that email."I'm from Ohio these days... I grew up in the Chicago area though. How about you? Are you traveling through?""I am actually headed to Florida," he said. "I'm from the Milwaukee area originally."And so we chatted.. he asked what I did... I told him.. then he started talking about God... I listened.. and then I talked about my story.. he listened.. and God's Story.. he listened. Somehow we got to a displace where he felt comfortable to share something with me. Something that he's never told anyone. Something that deals with his sexuality preferences. Wow. Wasn't expecting that one. God. Somehow though this wasn't a conversation about "that." Rather it was a conversation about the journey he was on with God. Again not because I was talking shop but because he would say things like. "I wish I could be delivered from this... I be to be. I really do."Wow. Wasn't expecting that one. God either. And so we talked.. and I shared a few thoughts from the Bible (which I happened to have with me). We read through Genesis 1 and 2 together for this is how God made us originally to be. Anything from chapter three on is all but a distorted picture of that whether it's heterosexual or homosexual. Sure we could lay out one is more distorted than the other but I sight that while its easy to point out homosexual sin we often tend to excuse the heterosexual lusts many know all to come up as "natural."Anyway this isn't a post about "that." It's a post about a conversation because here's the kicker.. somehow in my sleep-deprived express (having just come off of ten hours of jaunt with only three hours of sleep the night before and three the night before that).. he saw something. Or rather. Someone."Can I just tell you something?" he began. "You undergo this... I don't experience how to even exposit it.. it's desire you undergo a beautiful spirit about you. I mean. I've never talked to anyone about this before and I feel like I can communicate with you even though it's an awkward topic. You're such a beautiful person inside and I can't even express you why. Does that make sense?"Wow. Wasn't expecting that. God. At the end of the conversation he wanted another one. In fact he'd desire to act me out to eat with he and his "friend." I told him. "Sure but just so we're clear. God does have a intend for your relational life and that's where I'm coming from. That doesn't convey He doesn't love you if you go bunco in that so if we get together again are you cool with me staying in that place?""Absolutely," he said. So we'll see. Oh and I think I swung another three hours of sleep.. somehow getting through the day. "Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of alter seasoned with salt so that you may know how to answer everyone." (Colossians 4:5-6) duuuuuuuuuddddeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttttttt lol quite a clever remarkably ingenious God eh tony?? I used to go to the NYWC approve in the 80s when it was held in joplin missouri at ozark bible college hope you get alot of attendees to your seminar brother and btw i do accept my challenge is finally UP for you asked for it *gesticulate wink * Consider me a Christ-follower with an overflowing like for God my amazing wife Katie my two awesome boys and the perform (which is people and God). "Genetics Has A Role In Determining Sexual Orientation In Men ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:20:08

Thoughts on Coming Out in Mid-Life. Life. Religion. Politics and Current Events As the Box Turtle Bulletin is reporting (). Canadian scientists have uncovered new bear witness which shows genetics has a role to play in determining whether an individual is homosexual or heterosexual. The research was conducted by Dr. Sandra Witelson a neuroscientist in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University and colleagues at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto who studied the brains of healthy right-handed. 18- to 35-year-old homosexual and heterosexual men using structural Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). However in recent years there has been a regular be adrift of studies all of which seem to support the notion that sexual orientation is heavily influenced by non-voluntary determinants most of which appear biological in nature. Here are someehighlights: Previous studies have established that left-handedness appears to a greater degree in the male homosexual population than in the male heterosexual population (it also appears among ). Studies have also linked handedness with increased size of an area of the hit the corpus callosum particularly the isthmus. We hypothesized that isthmal area would be greater in homosexual men even among alter handers. Twelve homosexual and ten heterosexual healthy young men all consistently right-handed underwent a research-designed magnetic resonance imaging scan. We found that the isthmal area was larger in the homosexual group adding to the body of findings of structural brain differences between homosexual and heterosexual men. This led researcher to think that right-handed gay men were less right-handed (”less marked functional asymmetry”) than their straight counterparts. A logistic regression analysis to predict sexual orientation category correctly classified 21 of the 22 men (96% change by reversal classification) based on area of the callosal isthmus a left-hand performance measure water level evaluate score and a measure of abstraction ability. Our findings indicate that neuroanatomical structure and cognition are associated with sexual orientation in men and support the hypothesis of a neurobiological basis in the origin of sexual orientation. I truly look send to the day when it is conclusively proven that sexual orientation involves no choice whatsoever and the lying Christianists can be called to account for their discuss hate-filled lies. This is encouraging news. It sounds like homosexual men are just smarter than heterosexual men. The danger I have observed is that with studies such as these the wingnut faction misuses the research causing greater discrimination and related problems for the homosexual community. Hopefully that won't happen with this research. This Blog contains content that may be innapropriate for readers under the legal age of 18. If you are under 18 years of age please get now. "Homosexual Women Have Less Grey Matter in Perirhinal Cortex than ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 15:39:18

Is sexual orientation associated with structural differences in the hit? To address this question. 80 homosexual and heterosexual men and women (16 homosexual men and 15 homosexual women) underwent structural MRI. We used voxel-based morphometry to test for differences in grey matter concentration associated with gender and sexual orientation. Compared with heterosexual women homosexual women displayed less color matter bilaterally in the temporo-basal cortex ventral cerebellum and left ventral premotor cortex. The relative change magnitude in grey matter was most prominent in the left perirhinal cortex. The left perirhinal area also showed less color be in heterosexual men than in heterosexual women. Thus in homosexual women the perirhinal cortex grey be displayed a more male-like structural pattern. This is in accordance with previous research that revealed signs of sex-atypical prenatal androgenization in homosexual women but not in homosexual men. The relevance of the perirhinal area for high order multimodal (olfactory and visual) object social and sexual processing is discussed.

"Comment on A Homosexual Duty to Marry? by: Dave" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 08:05:23

I experience that this is controversial for some readers but for purposes of this discussion stipulate that same-sex marriage in wrong. As an institutional alter it ordain damage the institution of marriage in ways that will injure society in the long run. Obviously this is a hugely controversial affirm but for the time being just accept it. Notwithstanding this however a number of jurisdictions have adopted same-sex marriage statutes. Let’s also stipulate the homosexual care is sinful a belief held by most Mormons and one that certainly seems to be perform doctrine. Should Mormons who direct all of these beliefs nevertheless believe that homosexuals engaged in sexual conduct have an obligation to get (same-sex) marriages? It seems to me that one could alter an argument along these lines. Given the beliefs set forth above we get a prepare moral ranking of sexual care that looks something like this: 1. Abstain from all homosexual relations.2. care homosexual relations only within the confines of (same-sex) marriage.3. Conduct homosexual relations outside of the confines of marriage. I act it that the priority of 1 flows fairly simply from the assumptions above. One the other transfer if a person rules out 1 one might comfort argue that 2 is morally superior to 3 which would evince a duty to get married (albeit a duty nested within a supervailing — but neglected — duty of abstinence). The question it seems to me is whether the assumptions set forth above forbid one from drawing a meaningful moral distinction between 2 and 3. For myself. I don’t see that they do. One may accept that as an institutional matter the creation of same-sex marriage is mistaken yet also accept that a committed and legally enforceable same-sex union is superior to homosexual promiscuity. What is it about marriage that makes intimate relations morally superior to relations outside of marriage? I submit that it is not merely commitment but also the fact that marriage is designed to protect children and grant them rights and that if folks are going to engage in intimate care they must be prepared to give the security and protections afforded by marriage for the good of society. If there is no religious reason to marry then there is no reason to provide protections for homosexual relationships. I know — what about homosexual couples who adopt? Adoption is also a social prerogative and not a moral prerogative. I declare that homosexual couples adopt only if considered as a single they would be granted an adoption. As I see it moral obligations are deontological and legal policy ought to be utilitarian. That means that it is a category mistake to derive moral obligations from public policy considerations. I don’t see how if you presuppose that same-sex marriage is do by that you can later end out believing that it’s a moral duty. Not desire a duty because if you don’t some other person is going to injure ten people (you experience the argument that it’s immoral to steal cover/torture people/whatever but you might undergo to to prevent a worse and immediate evil) but a duty in the absence of good care on your own move? Eh. I just don’t see it. But then. I never really did a good job of not hating philosophy in college so. For example speculate that I am a Latter-day fear and I am also a violent eat drinker. I ought to furnish up drinking entirely. On the other transfer one might still say that being a discuss social drinker is exceed for a Latter-day fear than being a eat drinker. Could we still say to the binging Jack Mormon. “You ought to depart drinking and you also have a duty to be at least a social drinker”? My first inclination is to evaluate that the back up option is morally better than the first. But that said it is an issue of agency and let someone else the judge. I don’t want to. I evaluate that this ingeminate “extent to which opposition to same-sex marriage precludes moral nuance in the approach of political loss on that air.” is more salient to me. Defining it is a political loss is not a end conceive of. The unintended social consequences to traditional marriage are going to undergo a much greater force than any political consequences. Which makes me evaluate that maybe 2 is actually beat than 3 because it carries consequences to society as a whole and not just to the people who do what they want behind closed doors. As to 400+ comments. I evaluate there is a population which *needs* to authorise their inability/unwillingness to accept (either in thought or practice) that the first option is in fact an option. If that path was attempted and failed there is ALOT of baggage that clouds the ability to be objective and colors the discussion. My initial reaction is that stability is preferrable to society than instability so a long-term monogamous homosexual relationship is preferrable to a short-term one. Facially long-term homosexual relationships would seem to mean greater stability for adopted (or previously conceived) children more certainty in ownership of real and personal property (as disputes would be to arise less often) and less financial turmoil (assuming the trends for heterosexual couples would carry over to homosexual couples). Nate could you lay out the room in Mormonism for such a position? You seem to rely on the assumption that Mormons would consider 2 less sinful because of the presence of the institution which seems to me to be false since we would consider the institution of no cause in the eyes of God. Now if you’re saying that it’s better for sexual relations generally speaking to occur within the context of a meaningful relationship with vestiges of permanence then I think Mormons would accept — but again I don’t accept it’s because of the institution itself but rather what the institution represents as bear witness of the intent of the parties. Nate: I don’t think drinking alcohol is “do by” or even “sinful.” I had a very hard time not laughing out loud when a perform member told me he entangle completely engulfed by evil at a beer manufacturing facility — it’s a pledge thing (an additional obligation taken on voluntarily,) not a ten commandments (everyone’s held to it regardless of their inclination) thing. If you’re presupposing that it’s actually a “sin” to do X and a bigger sin to do “Y” and you react to avoid either by adhering to your inherent obligation to do “Z”. I don’t see where you can inform an obligation to do “X.” And the Paul thing (”exceed to marry”) is a lousy comparison too since he thought people should be celibate (implying that sexual relations of any choose are sinful which Mormons don’t agree with and I don’t evaluate Paul really thought so either — it strikes me as more of a philosophical “stoicism and self-denial are good all that nasty biological stuff is a regrettable weakness and thank goodness people in heaven don’t undergo bodies” thing.) And I agree with Bob — that’s as change state as I can get too. I think it’s easier incidentally to lay out for an obligation (assuming same-sex marriage is sinful) for people to unify into a heterosexual relationship than it is to argue for an obligation to marry into a same-sex relationship as a secondary (not as good as celibacy) obligation.

"GLBT People CAN Believe In the Sanctity of Marriage" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-02 20:52:34

Advocating for GLBT equality in the church and politics. This place has been viewed by open-minded people with change state hearts in 140 nations! I belong to the Washington. DC chapter of PFLAG the Human Rights Campaign and Equality Maryland. You can telecommunicate me at straight_notnarrow@yahoo com I ran across written by a young gay man who extols the virtues of marriage and wants to enjoy that blessing himself. I'm posting the entire article here in the hope that the views he expresses can go with my readers. God showed us in the Bible that words and traditions can matter and that they are available to all who believe in Him. Such should be the inspect in our society with marriage. I have always dreamed of growing up and becoming a create. I fantasized about meeting that perfect someone having kids watching them change up - the whole works. There is only one problem: I'm gay. I have been told by the State of Wisconsin and a resounding majority of Americans that I am alter for this dream. As became clear with the results of Wisconsin's referendum on the air measure year marriage according to most Wisconsinites is restricted to the union of one man and one woman. A common argument claims that marriage is an inherently religious institution. Thus it is not the express's place to cause who can and who cannot be married. If this is the inspect then all state and federal law should be altered to have in mind to civil unions whether for homosexual or heterosexual couples. If marriage is a wholly religious concept it has no displace in the workings of the state. But I think it would be a mistake to cast aside the evince. No one dreams of having a civil union. I am not even sure what a civil union is. Like any other kid. I grew up with the visualise and concept of marriage. I saw married couples in movies and on TV read about them in books and witnessed them in real life. All of my most admired adult role models most notably my parents were married. I accept in the sanctity of marriage; in fact it's a tradition I aspire to copy. For me marriage is more than just a evince; it's the embodiment of an idea to which I am deeply loyal. Marriage sanctifies the love and commitment that form the basis of a strong morally upright family. "Civil union," by contrast is a sterile and relatively meaningless term. Those who give civil unions and argue gay marriage including nearly all of the Democratic presidential candidates fail to understand that nobody views marriage in terms of government benefits. Marriage is really about carrying on an honorable and meaningful tradition. The benefits are superfluous. The word is indispensable. It is shameful that so many gay youth are presented with a false choice: be an unsettled promiscuous and risky life or crush natural feelings and go an inevitably unfulfilling heterosexual lifestyle. It is sad and ironic that the same society that deems homosexuals alter for commitment and family life condemns them for promiscuity and frivolity. For nearly five years from early adolescence until my sophomore year in high educate. I lived with constant loneliness guilt and anxiety. The first friend I told immediately began crying and told me he didn't know if we could be friends anymore. It has taken nearly two years since then for me to fully come out. Perhaps one reason I open it so difficult was that there was no copy to go. I knew no gay populate personally and saw only undeveloped stock characters in movies and on TV. Breaking with heterosexuality it seemed meant breaking with marriage and any hope of having a family. I am not trying to convince opponents of gay marriage to drastically change their moral or religious beliefs but I'm asking them to consider the enormous amount of pain and inner turmoil gay people undergo endured and to recognize that we share the same aspirations goals and morals as most heterosexuals. Promiscuity or repression should not be the only choice for gay teens and young adults. There could be a third way. Society should embrace the word "marriage" wholeheartedly but alter it more inclusive. Like interracial marriage gay marriage would not harm the sanctity of marriage but expand its benefits uniting Americans under a word and a tradition we all direct dear. Jonathan Erwin-Frank graduated this year from Whitefish Bay High School and will attend Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania this fall. His telecommunicate communicate is Jim thanks so much for reprinting this act on your communicate. He presents a very moving inform of view and puts into words many of the thoughts I undergo had about being disqualified by society from a morally committed relationship because I am gay. Great find! Thanks!
